Server Outage + Site Update

by Jonathan on June 12, 2009

I want to apologize for yesterday’s server outage. The article about the Italian woman who missed flight 447 and later died in a car crash was mentioned on, and lots of people were talking about it on Twitter yesterday. There was massive spike in traffic and the server just couldn’t handle it.

In order to protect the server and the other websites that are hosted on it, the web hosting company was forced to make the site unavailable for most of the time.

I’m thinking about moving this site to it’s own dedicated server so that this doesn’t happen again (the downtime).

Future of the Site

I have been working on gathering as much information on the passengers as I could.I am in the process of building a database with passenger information. From this database, you will be able to search names, nationalites, age, and other information. I don’t know exactly when I will make it live, there’s still a lot of work to do.

I am still gathering the stories of the passengers. Although there is a lot of information out there, a lot of it is in languages other than English or French, and I only speak English and French.

If you’d like to submit the stories of some of the passengers, you can do so by sending an email to AirFranceAF447 [at]

Thanks for your help.
